Eighth graders returned increíble results in competitive global language examinations. 

Students enrolled in World Languages classes are eligible for the National Spanish Exam and Le Grand Concours, in-depth exams that test student knowledge of Spanish and French respectively. 

In these exams, students complete two timed test portions, with questions that measure reading, listening, vocabulary and grammar proficiency. Scoring is done in a ranked percentile system; awards start with acknowledgement of students in the 50th- 74th percentile, who earn honorable mention. 

High results on the exam can help facilitate entry into higher-level language classes in high school, prepare students for advanced placement courses and generally bolster academic transcripts.

StG World Languages Department Chair Jake Guth said the exam was a fantastic opportunity for students to display their knowledge of the language. 

“While St George's 8th graders have historically earned medals in these national exams, we are exceptionally proud of how our kids placed this year: 64% of 8th graders (7 out of 11) who took a national test earned a medal!” Guth said.
