The Lunar New Year, celebrated in Asian cultures, heralds a time of new beginnings and celebrations. This year, with the Lunar New Year set for Feb. 17, StG students celebrated ahead of time with a Rising Dragon Lion Dance Team performance. Held Wednesday, Feb. 11, performers decked out in sparkly lion costumes danced in the bleachers to accompanying drum music.

Students fed red envelopes to the dragons and watched the acrobatic dance in a well-attended school meeting. The dance, which incorporated freestyle audience engagement with choregraphed moves, is meant to ward off evil and bring in good luck for the new year. Lunar New Year also marks the transition between Zodiac animals for the year. In 2026, we will have the Year of the Fire Horse.  Thanks to the dance, we're looking forward to a year of luck!
