Summer at St. George's

Dragon Camp's dynamic programming includes a variety of enriching electives like robotics, upcycled art classes, themed programming, daily outside water play activities and targeted classroom small group activities. Several St. George’s teachers teach within the program, allowing Dragon Camp students to enjoy uninterrupted access to familiar instructors. The camp encourages personalized project-based learning and creative free play in a safe and caring environment. Two 3-week sessions are available in June and July, and weekly registration is available for students in Kindergarten-4th grade. Session 1: June 8th-26th

• Summer at StG will be closed for Juneteenth on June 19th
• Weekly registration is available for rising Kindergarten-4th grade; younger students must register for the full 3-week session

Session 2: July 6th-24th

• Weekly registration is available for rising Kindergarten-4th grade; younger students must register for the full 3-week session

Fees

• 3-week registration: $1020.00 for full-day attendance (8 a.m.-3 p.m.) or $890.00 for half-day attendance (8 a.m.-12 p.m., applicable as an option for Age 1-Pre-K3 only)
• 1-week registration: $340 for full-day attendance (8 a.m.-3 p.m., applicable as an option for Kindergarten-4th grade only)
• After Care: $300 for 5 days of After Care over a 3-week session or $180 for 3 days of After Care over a 3-week session ($160 for Session 1 due to Juneteenth). After Care registration adjusted accordingly for 1-week registrations. After Care operates from 3:30-5:30 p.m. daily.
• Deposit: There will be a nonrefundable deposit of $250 per child per session, including the $25 registration fee, if you choose to cancel your child's registration. 

Waitlist Information
Due to the popularity of our camp, some age levels will fill quickly. In this case, a waitlist prompt will be available via our registration website. We try to open additional spots as we secure staffing for the summer; should this happen, we can let you know if a spot becomes available. Note that there is no need to sign up more than once per session; please sign up only for the option that is your top preference (e.g. 5 full days, 5 half days, etc.) You will be contacted if a spot become available. We check the registration website regularly, so there is no need to send a separate email about being on the waitlist. Only children who are signed up on the waitlist will be considered when spots become available.

Ready, Set, Read! is a highly respected summer literacy program designed for students who need targeted reading intervention. Open to rising Kindergarten through fifth grade students, the program is offered in three-week sessions in June and July and is led by highly trained reading instructors.

Unlike many summer reading programs that focus only on enrichment activities, Ready, Set, Read! provides structured, evidence-based literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading. Our program is specifically designed for students who:

• Struggle with the reading process
• Are performing below grade-level expectations in reading or writing
• Have been diagnosed with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences

Each 90-minute class is capped at just three students, allowing teachers to provide individualized instruction tailored to each child’s learning profile. Students work within a sequential, multi-sensory, structured literacy framework that builds essential reading skills step by step, including:

• Phonological and phonemic awareness
• Decoding and encoding
• Reading fluency and comprehension
• Written expression
• Vocabulary

This systematic approach helps students develop the foundational skills they need to become confident readers.

Student Placement
To ensure every child receives the most effective instruction, Ready, Set, Read! uses a careful placement process. 

• For students with a recent evaluation, our coordinator reviews the evaluation and consults with the child’s current reading teacher, tutor or literacy specialist to identify targeted learning goals. 
• Students without a current evaluation participate in a brief on-campus screening to assess reading skills and determine program fit. 

Families receive a written screening summary and placement recommendation based on these evaluations. This process allows us to create small instructional groups with aligned skill needs, maximizing progress during the three-week session.

This is a camp where learners become leaders. 

In the second year of this exciting new program, campers explore learning through the Project Approach. This method allows campers to collaborate on real-world projects, engaging in in-depth, hands-on investigations. Through this immersive experience, attendees develop problem-solving skills as they actively inquire, explore and discover new concepts in a supportive, flexible environment.

What Can Campers and Parents Expect?
Upper elementary learners will find a challenging and exciting program in Investigators' Workshop, a one-week project-based, creativity-forward summer camp geared toward discovery. StG Project Approach Lead Coach Rebecca Teall models the camp experience on the Project Approach, an in-depth, innovative method of learning that St. George's champions during the school year. Investigators’ Workshop is an accelerated version of this emergent learning experience. 

This unique camp facilitates a creative environment where children are excited to learn and given the space and independence to become their own scholars. Research shows this method strengthens participants' interest in learning and can have long-lasting beneficial impacts on academic life, classroom engagement and study habits. The topic of the camp is selected each year by the participating group, a format that maximizes camper independence and leadership.

Here's a Sample Schedule for the Week:
Monday: Launching the Project
The first day of camp will center around project introduction. On Monday, teachers will facilitate discussions, with campers encouraged to share ideas, questions and thoughts about the ways they want to undertake the process. By the end of the day, campers will have selected a shared project topic that interests every single learner in the group. 

Tuesday: Developing the Project 
Students will engage in hands-on research activities connected to the chosen topic. Teachers will introduce tools and strategies for gathering information,and begin to help campers find their role in the investigation. 

Wednesday: Deepening the Investigation
An expert guest speaker will visit campers, who have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss best methods of investigation with one or more individuals closely connected to the chosen topic. If in close proximity to campus, students will go on a walking field trip to explore and connect with the topic firsthand. Teachers will guide students in observations, helping campers document the experience through notes, sketches, photos and/or recordings. By the end of the day, students will have expanded their understanding through direct experience and through expert input. 

Thursday: Synthesizing Learning
Thursday is a day of reflection, where campers begin to synthesize their research and experiences and begin organizing and interpreting their findings, working towards a culminating project. On Thursday, campers begin preparing materials to communicate what they’ve learned to an audience, preparing materials, models, visual props, written content and other presentation aids. 

Friday: Culminating and Showcasing the Project
On Friday, students finalize documentation and select the items that will be on display before setting up their event. After the project display is completed, families and community members are welcomed into the space to view and engage with the project. This presentation allows campers to present as newfound experts on their subject, showcasing their confidence.
